10. Amy Poehler as Joy in “Inside Out”.
After winning a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy show in 2014, Amy Poehler performed as the voice of Joy in the Pixar movie “Inside out”. As such, she was the “cheerful character” among five basic emotions in the mind of an 11-year-old child.
9. Kathleen Turner as Jessica Rabbit in“Who framed Roger Rabbit?”.
Two-time Golden Globe award winner Kathleen Turner played in 1988 this sexy role under the direction of Robert Zemeckis. Her character, Jessica Rabbit, is known for her quote in the movie: “I’m not bad. I’m just drawn that way.”
8. Peter O’Toole as Anton Ego in“Ratatouille”.
2002 Honorary Award winner Peter O’Toole is most notorious for his main role in Lawrence of Arabia, but he’s also stuck in our heads as the voice of an extremely hard-to-please gourmand in 2007 Pixar Best Animation Oscar winning movie “Ratatouille”.
7. Eartha Kitt as Yzma in“The Emperor’s New Groove”
Actress, jazz singer, cabaret starlet and voice artist, Eartha Kitt has the whole package. She received an Annie Award in the year 2000 for best performance in an animation movie for her role as the emperor’s advisor with significant delusions of grandeur.
6. Ellen Degeneres as Dory in“Finding Nemo”
Emmy award winner, comedian, actress and TV host, Ellen Degeneres played Dory, a fish with serious memory issues, in “Finding Nemo” (2003). Funny story: she didn’t audition. She was told her face resembled a fish, and thus, she was the perfect fit.
5. Phil Harris as Baloo in“The Jungle Book”
Successful orchestra musical director Phil Harris is still fondly remembered for his work in animated movies – especially his performance in “The Jungle Book”. Who can resist singing along the famous soundtrack song “Look for the bare necessities…”
4. Jeremy Irons as Scar in“The Lion King”
Wildly considered the best animation movie ever, this year we can enjoy a Lion King live action remake. We personally prefer the original and Jeremy Irons’s powerful performance as Scar. Trade secret: Irons smoked to achieve those threatening dark voice tones!
3. Tom Hanks as Sheriff Woody in the“Toy Story” saga
Only one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood could play the most famous Disney toy. “I can’t imagine playing any other animated character,” said Tom Hanks after voicing Woody in the fourth Toy Story movie. Neither can we imagine anyone else claiming that “There is a snake in my boot”, Tom!
2. Eddie Murphy as Donkey in the“Shrek” movies
Actor, director, singer, comedian, Golden Globe winner for Best Supporting Actor in Dreamgirls and Razzie winner for Worst Actor in Norbit, Eddie Murphy is a man of contrasts – and the unforgettable voice of Shrek’s quirky and hyperactive best friend.
1. Robin Williams as the Genie in“Aladdin”.
Robin Williams left a long list of iconic characters in his wake, one of the most memorable ones undoubtedly being the Genie in Aladdin. Disney actually has hours of unedited material from his recordings – enough for a whole new movie! But for legal reasons these can’t be released until 25 years after his demise. While we wait, though, we can now enjoy Will Smith’s performance as the Genie in the live action Aladdin version – nothing to sneeze at, either.
