Mel Blanc, known as “The Man of Thousand Voices” was the most prolific voice actor in the voice-acting industry and without a doubt one of the most influential one

He deservedly earned his nickname, after lending his voice to almost 400 different characters and participating in 3,000 cartoon episodes. He is better known for his work at Warner Bros.during the “Golden Age of American Animation”.

In the 40s and 50s, he dubbed 90% of Warner’s animated characters. His most famous ones during this time were Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian, Tweety, Road Runner, Speedy Gonzales, or The Tasmanian Devil, among others.

In the 1960s he worked in The Flintstones, the first animated TV sitcom to be broadcast in prime time. Of course, just like his previous works, this series was very successful. Mel Blanc brought Barney Rubble and Dino, the dinosaur, to life, with his incomparable voice.

When in 1988 Robert Zemeckis directed the ingenious, creative and funny “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?“, a film that mixes live action and animation, Mel Blanc took the job of dubbing five of his vintage characters. It was one of the last works of this exceptional voice actor.

We wanted to recover the beautiful thought that Hank Azaria, best known for his voice work on The Simpsons, left us on the legacy of the great Mel Blanc and what his achievements represent for the world of voice-over: at the time of his death, an estimated 20 million people had heard his voice every day.

Lastly, here’s a little bit of trivia about Mel Blanc: there has been this rumor for many years that Mel Blanc, Bugs Bunny’s renowned voice, was allergic to carrots. How ironic. Chuck McKibbin, one of his best friends, confirmed at the time of Blanc’s death that it was nothing more than an urban legend.
